L'Almanarre is the long sandy beach on the western side of the Giens peninsula near Hyères. From the boardwalk through the dunes you look west over the sea, with the hills of the peninsula on the left and the distant headland of Cap Sicié on the right. When the sun sets in this view

From early February to mid-April and from late August to early November the sun sets inside this frame. In February and late October it goes down over the sea next to the low hills on the left; around the equinoxes it sets behind the distant headland of Cap Sicié, about five minutes before the official sunset time.

In April and late August it sets near the right edge of this view. From November to January it sets beyond the left edge, and from late April to late August beyond the right edge.
