When the sun sets in this view

This is a view for winter sunsets: the sun sets inside this frame from mid-October to late February, just when it rises outside the frame of the sunrise view from the same spot. It does not go down into the sea: far beyond the water lie the hills of the Esterel and the hinterland of Cannes, 45–100 km away and often hidden in haze, and the sun disappears behind them about a minute after the official sunset time.

Around the December solstice it sets above the base of Cap Ferrat, behind the Esterel hills beyond Cannes. In October and February it moves to the right, above the Baie des Anges beyond Nice, behind the hills around Grasse. From March to mid-October it sets beyond the right edge of this view, behind the mountains.

The viewpoint is on the edge of a high cliff; after sunset it gets dark quickly, so bring a torch for the way back.
